It grows quickly and responds well to regular pinching, which encourages a fuller, bushier shape. Whether you display it on a shelf, in a hanging basket, or as a filler in combination planters, Variegated Swedish Ivy brings lively color and a relaxed, trailing form.

Plant Features

Variegated foliage with green centers and creamy white margins

Trailing growth habit ideal for hanging baskets and containers

Easy-care nature suitable for beginners

Works well as a houseplant or seasonal outdoor plant

Responds well to pruning for a fuller shape

Growing Information

Botanical Name: Plectranthus coleoides

Plant Type: Tender perennial, often grown as a houseplant or annual

Sunlight: Bright, indirect light; protect from harsh afternoon sun

Soil: Well-draining potting mix

Water Requirements: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry; avoid waterlogging

Growth Habit: Trailing, spreading

USDA Hardiness Zones: 10-11

Mature Height: Typically 6-12 inches tall with trailing stems

Spacing: Space plants 12-18 inches apart in containers or garden beds

Planting & Care

When your Variegated Swedish Ivy arrives, water it lightly and let it acclimate to its new environment. If planting outdoors, wait until all danger of frost has passed and choose a location with bright, filtered light and well-draining soil. For indoor growing, place it near a bright window but out of direct, scorching sun. Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows.

Pinch back the stems to encourage branching and a fuller plant. Fertilize monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Inspect for common pests such as spider mites and aphids, and treat promptly if needed. With minimal care, this plant can thrive and provide long-lasting foliage interest.

What's Included

One Variegated Swedish Ivy plant (Plectranthus coleoides).
