After stratification, sow seeds indoors in pots filled with a well-draining seed-starting mix, covering them lightly with soil. Keep the medium consistently moist and maintain a temperature around 70°F (21°C). Germination can take several weeks. Once seedlings have developed a few sets of true leaves, transplant them into larger containers or a nursery bed. Harden off before planting in their permanent location.

Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil for planting. Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish a strong root system. Apply a layer of mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Prune as needed to shape the tree and remove dead or crossing branches. Spartan apple trees are generally self-fertile but may produce better fruit set with a compatible pollinator variety nearby.

What's Included

25 Spartan Apple Seeds (Malus domestica).
