Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots, place the cutting horizontally or at a slight angle with the top end pointing up, and cover with 1-2 inches of soil. Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil consistently moist until new growth appears. Mulching around the planting area helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Once established, salmonberry requires minimal care. Water during dry spells, especially in the first year. Prune to remove dead or damaged canes and to control spread if desired. These plants are vigorous growers and may naturalize in favorable conditions.
