These cheerful, daisy-like flowers rise above compact, bushy foliage and bring a bold splash of color to borders, containers, rock gardens, and pollinator-friendly landscapes. The blooms are long-lasting and make excellent cut flowers, while the neat growth habit keeps plants looking tidy throughout the season.

Easy to grow from seed, Cape Daisies perform best in full sun and well-drained soil. They are a favorite for gardeners seeking low-maintenance color, and their nectar-rich flowers attract bees and butterflies. Whether planted en masse or used as a front-of-border accent, Osteospermum ecklonis delivers reliable visual interest from early summer into fall.

Plant Features

Bicolor flowers with purple centers and white petals

Compact, bushy growth habit

Long blooming season from early summer to fall

Attracts bees and butterflies

Excellent for borders, containers, and cut flowers

Growing Information

Botanical Name: Osteospermum ecklonis

Plant Type: Perennial (often grown as annual)

Sunlight: Full sun

Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil

Water Requirements: Moderate; allow soil to dry slightly between waterings

Growth Habit: Compact, bushy

USDA Hardiness Zones: 9-11 (grown as annual elsewhere)

Bloom Season: Early summer to fall

Mature Height: 12-24 inches

Spacing: 12-18 inches apart

Planting & Care

Sow Cape Daisy seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Press seeds lightly into the surface of a moist, well-drained seed-starting mix; do not cover deeply, as light aids germination. Maintain a temperature of 65-70°F (18-21°C) and keep the medium evenly moist but not soggy. Germination typically occurs in 10-21 days. Once seedlings have two sets of true leaves, transplant into individual pots and gradually acclimate them to outdoor conditions before planting out after the danger of frost has passed.

In the garden, choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Water regularly during establishment, then reduce frequency as plants mature; Cape Daisies tolerate short dry spells but perform best with consistent moisture. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continued flowering. In cooler zones, plants can be overwintered indoors or treated as annuals.

What's Included

50 Bicolor Cape Daisy seeds (Osteospermum ecklonis) for planting.
