Unlike the vigorous vine form, this wisteria is trained as a tree, making it an elegant focal point in gardens, patios, or entryways. Its compact, tree-like habit brings the beauty of wisteria without the aggressive climbing tendencies, making it suitable for smaller landscapes or container culture.

In spring and early summer, the tree produces long racemes of pea-like blossoms that attract pollinators and fill the air with a sweet perfume. The lush, pinnate foliage provides dappled shade and turns yellow in autumn, adding seasonal interest. This bare root specimen, sized 1-2 feet, is ready to establish in your garden and will reward you with years of spectacular bloom.

Plant Features

Fragrant blue-violet flowers in long, pendulous clusters

Tree-form growth habit, ideal for small gardens and patios

Attracts pollinators and adds vertical interest

Deciduous foliage with yellow fall color

Bare root specimen, 1-2 feet tall, ready for planting

Growing Information

Botanical Name: Wisteria sinensis

Plant Type: Deciduous flowering tree

Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade

Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil

Water Requirements: Moderate; water regularly during establishment

Growth Habit: Tree form (grafted or trained)

USDA Hardiness Zones: 5-9

Bloom Season: Spring to early summer

Mature Height: 10-15 feet (with pruning)

Spacing: 8-10 feet apart

Planting & Care

Plant your bare root wisteria tree in a sunny location with well-draining soil. Soak the roots in water for a few hours before planting. Dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the root system, place the tree at the same depth it was growing previously, and backfill with soil. Water thoroughly after planting and apply a layer of mulch to retain moisture. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the first growing season.

Once established, wisteria is relatively drought-tolerant. Prune in late winter to maintain the tree shape and encourage flowering. Remove any suckers that emerge from the base. Fertilize lightly in spring if growth is weak. With proper care, your Blue Chinese Wisteria Tree will become a stunning specimen, providing fragrant blooms and beauty for years to come.

What's Included

One bare root Blue Chinese Wisteria Tree, 1-2 feet tall.
