Planting & Care
Coralburst Crabapple seeds require cold stratification to germinate. To stratify, mix seeds with moist peat moss or sand and refrigerate for 60-90 days. After stratification, sow seeds about 1/4 inch deep in a well-draining seed-starting mix. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Provide warmth and bright light. Germination can be slow and uneven, so be patient.
Once seedlings have developed several true leaves, transplant them into individual pots and grow them on in a sheltered spot. Gradually acclimate young trees to outdoor conditions before planting in their permanent location. Choose a site with full sun and well-drained soil. Water regularly during the first few years to help establish a strong root system. Apply a layer of mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds, but keep mulch away from the trunk.
