Sow seeds directly outdoors after the last frost date, when soil has warmed to at least 70°F (21°C). Plant seeds 1 inch deep in hills or rows, spacing 36–48 inches apart. Provide consistent moisture during germination and growth, but avoid waterlogged soil. Mulching helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Once vines are established, water deeply once per week. Harvest when the rind is hard and the stem begins to dry. Cure fruits in a warm, dry place for 7–10 days before storing in a cool, dry location.
