Planting & Care

Sow Tequila Flame Lupine seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost or directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Scarify seeds by nicking the seed coat or soaking in warm water for 24 hours to improve germination. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in a well-draining seed-starting mix. Keep soil consistently moist and maintain a temperature of 65-70°F (18-21°C). Germination typically occurs in 14-21 days.

Once seedlings have developed true leaves, transplant them into individual pots and gradually acclimate them to outdoor conditions. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Water regularly during the growing season, especially during dry spells. Mulch around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage additional blooms and prevent self-seeding if desired. In colder zones, provide winter protection with a layer of mulch.
