Planting & Care

Sow Midnight Oil Blue Sunflower seeds directly outdoors after the last frost date, planting about 1 inch deep and 6 inches apart, then thinning to 18-24 inches apart once seedlings are established. Choose a location with full sun and well-drained soil. Keep the soil consistently moist during germination and early growth. These sunflowers are relatively low-maintenance once established, but benefit from regular watering during dry spells and may require staking in windy areas due to their height.

For best results, plant in a spot protected from strong winds and provide adequate space for air circulation to help prevent disease. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continued flowering, or leave seed heads for birds to enjoy.
