Planting & Care

Sow Baby Blue Hubbard squash seeds outdoors after the last frost date, when soil has warmed to at least 60°F. Plant seeds 1 inch deep in hills or rows, spacing 36–48 inches apart. For earlier starts, begin seeds indoors 2–3 weeks before transplanting. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Provide plenty of sunlight and space for vines to spread. Fertilize lightly when plants begin to run. Harvest fruits when the rind is hard and the stem turns corky, typically before the first heavy frost. Cure squash in a warm, dry place for 7–10 days to improve storage life.
