Bloomsdale Long Standing Spinach is a classic heirloom savoy spinach prized for its thick, crinkled dark green leaves and rich, tender flavor. This cool-season vegetable is a favorite for spring and fall gardens, producing heavy yields of broad, upright leaves that are easy to harvest and clean. Whether enjoyed fresh in salads, sautéed as a side dish, or blended into smoothies, Bloomsdale delivers dependable garden performance and excellent nutritional value.

Its compact, rosette-forming habit makes it well-suited to garden beds, raised planters, and containers. The savoyed texture holds dressings and sauces beautifully, and the leaves can be harvested continuously as a cut-and-come-again crop. Long Standing is known for its slower bolting compared to other spinach varieties, extending the harvest window in cooler weather.

Planting & Care

Sow Bloomsdale spinach seeds directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked in spring, or in late summer for a fall crop. Plant seeds about 1/2 inch deep and 2–3 inches apart, thinning to 4–6 inches once seedlings emerge. Spinach germinates best in cool soil, so provide shade or use row covers if temperatures rise. Keep the seedbed consistently moist but not waterlogged.

Once established, water regularly to prevent bolting and stress. Mulch around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Harvest outer leaves first, or cut the entire plant about an inch above the soil line to encourage new growth. For a continuous supply, succession sow every 2–3 weeks during cool weather.
