Catskill is a favorite among home gardeners seeking a reliable, time-tested variety that thrives when temperatures dip.

Whether you're growing a backyard vegetable patch or a dedicated cool-season garden, Catskill Brussels sprouts offer a rewarding harvest. Planting & Care

Start Catskill Brussels sprout seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, or sow directly in the garden in late summer for a fall harvest. Sow seeds about 1/4 inch deep in a sunny location with rich, well-drained soil. Keep the soil consistently moist during germination, which typically takes 7-14 days. Once seedlings have several true leaves, thin or transplant them to 18-24 inches apart.

Brussels sprouts benefit from regular watering and a layer of mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize lightly a few weeks after transplanting. As the plants grow, you can remove lower leaves to encourage sprout development. Harvest sprouts from the bottom of the stem upward when they are firm and about 1-2 inches in diameter. A light frost can improve flavor.
