Cobb Mountain Lupine is a striking perennial wildflower prized for its tall spikes of purple, pea-like blooms. Native to the coastal mountains of California, this lupine brings a bold vertical accent to borders, meadow plantings, and pollinator gardens. Its vibrant flower spikes rise above neat clumps of palmate green leaves, creating a beautiful contrast in mixed beds and naturalized landscapes.

These seeds are ideal for gardeners looking to add a native touch to their outdoor space. Cobb Mountain Lupine attracts bees and butterflies, making it a wonderful choice for wildlife-friendly gardens. Planting & Care

Sow Cobb Mountain Lupine seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost, or directly in the garden in early spring or fall. Scarify seeds by nicking the seed coat or soaking in warm water for 24 hours to improve germination. Plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep in a well-draining seed-starting mix. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination typically occurs in 14 to 30 days at temperatures around 65-70°F (18-21°C).

Once seedlings have developed several true leaves, transplant them outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish a deep root system. Once established, Cobb Mountain Lupine is relatively drought-tolerant. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage additional blooms and prevent self-seeding if desired. In colder climates, apply a layer of mulch around the base of plants in late fall to protect roots over winter.
