Planting & Care
Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date. Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix and keep consistently moist at around 75°F (24°C) for best germination. Once seedlings have two sets of true leaves, transplant them into larger pots or harden them off and move them to the garden after the danger of frost has passed. Space plants 18-24 inches apart in full sun and well-drained soil.
Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Mulch around plants to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize lightly when plants begin to flower. Harvest peppers when they reach full size and are firm; they can be picked yellow for mild flavor or left to ripen to red for a sweeter taste. Regular harvesting encourages more fruit production.
