Planting & Care

To grow Kordia cherry from seed, start by stratifying the seeds to break dormancy. Place seeds in a moist medium such as peat moss or sand, seal in a plastic bag, and refrigerate for 8-12 weeks. After stratification, sow seeds about 1 inch deep in pots filled with well-draining seed-starting mix. Keep the medium consistently moist and provide warmth (around 65-75°F) for germination. Once seedlings have several sets of true leaves, transplant them into larger containers or a nursery bed.

Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil for planting outdoors. Water regularly during the first few years to help establish a strong root system. Mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Prune as needed to maintain shape and remove dead or crossing branches. Protect young trees from deer and rodents if necessary. Note that trees grown from seed may take several years to bear fruit and may not produce fruit identical to the parent variety.
