Korean Perilla, also known as Shiso, is a versatile aromatic herb prized for its large, serrated leaves and distinctive mint-basil flavor. This non-GMO variety is a staple in Korean cuisine, where the leaves are used fresh in wraps, pickles, and salads, or added to soups and stews for a unique, refreshing taste. The plant is also valued for its ornamental appeal, with green foliage and spikes of small white flowers that attract pollinators.

Easy to grow from seed, Korean Perilla thrives in warm weather and well-drained soil, making it a rewarding addition to herb gardens, container gardens, and edible landscapes. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a beginner, these seeds offer a chance to enjoy fresh, homegrown flavor and the beauty of this useful herb.

Planting & Care

Sow Korean Perilla seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, or directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Lightly cover seeds with soil, as they need light to germinate. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Once seedlings have two sets of true leaves, thin or transplant them to their final spacing. For best flavor, harvest leaves regularly, starting from the bottom of the plant. Pinch off flower buds to encourage leaf production if desired.

Korean Perilla is relatively low-maintenance but benefits from regular watering during dry spells and a layer of mulch to retain moisture. It can self-sow readily, so remove flower spikes if you want to control its spread. Enjoy fresh leaves throughout the growing season.
