Red Grano onions store reasonably well and are a favorite among home gardeners for their versatility and reliable performance.

Grown from seed, Red Grano onions are a rewarding crop for both beginner and experienced gardeners. Planting & Care

For best results, start Red Grano onion seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date. Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in a seed-starting mix and keep moist until germination. Harden off seedlings before transplanting outdoors. Alternatively, direct sow seeds in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Onions prefer full sun and well-drained, fertile soil with a pH of 6.0-7.0. Keep the area weed-free and water regularly to maintain even moisture, but avoid overwatering.

As bulbs begin to form, reduce watering slightly to encourage proper maturation. Stop watering when the tops start to yellow and fall over. Harvest bulbs when the necks are dry and the skins are papery. Cure onions in a warm, dry, well-ventilated area for 2-3 weeks before storing in a cool, dry place. With proper curing, Red Grano onions can store for several months.
