Yellow Jasmine, also known as Carolina Jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens), is a vigorous evergreen climbing vine prized for its bright yellow, fragrant flowers. Native to the southeastern United States, Carolina Jessamine is a low-maintenance plant that thrives in full sun to partial shade. Its glossy green foliage provides year-round interest, and the sweetly scented flowers are a welcome sight for hummingbirds and bees. Planting & Care
To grow Yellow Jasmine from seeds, start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost or sow directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours to soften the seed coat and improve germination. Sow seeds about 1/4 inch deep in a well-draining seed-starting mix. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and maintain a temperature around 70-75°F (21-24°C). Germination can be slow and uneven, taking several weeks to a few months.
Once seedlings have developed several sets of true leaves, transplant them into larger pots or directly into the garden after hardening off. Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and provide a trellis or other support for the vine to climb. Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish a deep root system. Mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Prune as needed to control size and shape, and to remove any dead or damaged growth. Note: All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, so handle with care and keep away from children and pets.
