Sow Illumination Zinnia seeds outdoors after the last frost date, once the soil has warmed to at least 60°F (15°C). Plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep and 9-12 inches apart in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination, which typically occurs in 7-14 days. Thin seedlings to the recommended spacing to encourage good air circulation.
Water regularly, preferably at the base of the plant, to avoid wetting the foliage and reduce disease risk. Mulch around plants to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Deadhead spent flowers to promote continued blooming. Zinnias are relatively low-maintenance and benefit from occasional feeding with a balanced fertilizer.
