3 Butterfly Weed Plants, Asclepias tuberosa, Perennial Bare Root, Monarch Butterfly Attracting
Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa) is a native perennial prized for its vibrant orange flower clusters and its role as a host plant for monarch butterflies. This hardy plant brings long-lasting color to borders, pollinator gardens, and meadow plantings, and its nectar-rich blooms attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects throughout the summer.
Supplied as bare root plants, Butterfly Weed establishes reliably when planted in well-drained soil and full sun. Its upright, clump-forming habit and tolerance for dry conditions make it a low-maintenance choice for naturalized areas and water-wise landscapes.

Planting & Care
Plant bare roots in spring after the danger of frost has passed. Choose a location with full sun and well-drained soil. Dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the roots without bending them, place the crown about 1 inch below the soil surface, and backfill gently. Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil consistently moist until new growth appears.
Once established, Butterfly Weed requires little care. Water during extended dry periods, especially in the first growing season. Avoid overwatering or heavy clay soils, as good drainage is essential. Cut back spent foliage in late fall or leave seed pods to self-sow. Mulch lightly around plants to conserve moisture and suppress weeds, but keep mulch away from the crown.
