Planting & Care

Sow sweet pea seeds outdoors in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked, or start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost. Nick the seed coat or soak seeds in water for 24 hours before planting to improve germination. Plant seeds about 1 inch deep and keep the soil consistently moist until seedlings emerge.

Provide a trellis or support for the vines to climb. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, and mulch to retain moisture. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continued blooming. Sweet peas prefer cool weather and may decline in intense summer heat.
