Planting & Care

Cherry seeds require stratification to germinate. To stratify, mix seeds with moist peat moss or sand and refrigerate for 8-12 weeks. After stratification, sow seeds about 1 inch deep in a well-draining seed-starting mix. Keep the soil consistently moist and maintain a temperature around 65-70°F. Germination can be slow and uneven, often taking several weeks to months.

Once seedlings have developed several sets of true leaves, transplant them into larger pots or a nursery bed. Provide full sun and regular watering. When planting in the ground, choose a site with well-drained soil and space trees 15-20 feet apart to allow for mature size. Protect young trees from extreme weather and pests. With proper care, your cherry tree will establish and grow into a beautiful and productive addition to your garden.
